Sonya Wise is a native of Southwest Missouri. Wise exhibited a strong penchant for drawing and creating from a young age and that fascination has continued throughout her life.
Although Wise paints and exhibits a variety of subject matter, portrait and figurative art attracts her. An intense study of human anatomy has increased her interest in the human form. That, along with capturing a feeling in a single moment, both expression and movement, is challenging and exhilarating to her.
Wise is motivated by others reactions to artwork of all types. Being a long-time Docent for the Springfield Art Museum, she channels that motivation of the experience of interacting with other observers views about the works into her own pieces.
Wise strives to connect with her viewer. Admiration for old masters and their techniques have greatly influenced her stylistically. Her painting "Emerging" won first place at the 2018 Studio 55 Annual Exhibition at the Springfield Art Museum.
